INSPECTO-D is a duct inspection cleaning robot which aims to inspect and clean Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system of a building. HVAC duct are the main air distribution for indoor environment. Modern HVAC duct is normally hidden inside the ceiling thus it is hard to visualize the duct structures. The importance of inspection & cleaning the HVAC duct routinely is often neglected by the building management and public. A dirty HVAC duct may possess threat to human because as the dust accumulates it trap harmful airborne particles and even diseases that can cause Sick Building Syndrome. A schedule inspection and maintenance are required to maintain optimum indoor air quality (IAQ). Although the inspection and maintenance works are usually conducted by human, it requires a specialist where large area need to be covered which require numerous manpower and time to completed the task.
In this regard, robotic solutions have been implemented in many cases. INSPECTO-D is a multi function robot that has a modular design where it can mount a brush, air nozzle, lidar, pan tilt zoom camera or a laser scanner, whichever suits the need of customer. INSPECTO-D with additional laser scanner can inspect and digitalize the duct pathway so the cleaning process can later be automated. With the optional accessories of brush & air nozzle attached, INSPECTO-D can be transformed into a cleaning robot and adapt to different duct size and cleans it.
