Pengenalan

The Modified Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Internal Bracing (MUIB) Autograft (Multi-Ligament) is a specialized ligament reconstruction construct designed to enhance the early biomechanical stability of multi-ligament knee reconstruction, particularly in complex injuries involving the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL), and/or other stabilizing ligaments of the knee. Using the patient’s own autologous tendon tissue, such as hamstring, quadriceps, patellar tendon, or other suitable tendon grafts, the technique incorporates high-strength synthetic internal bracing alongside the biological grafts to provide additional mechanical reinforcement across the reconstructed ligaments.

A key feature of the MUIB Autograft is the integration of biological autograft tissue with an internal bracing system for multi-ligament reconstruction. This hybrid construct allows the reconstructed ligaments to benefit from the biological advantages of the patient's own tissue while providing additional mechanical support during the early postoperative period. The internal brace functions as a load-sharing reinforcement structure, helping to protect the autografts from excessive strain and maintaining construct stability while biological healing, graft incorporation, and ligamentization take place.

The MUIB Autograft (Multi-Ligament) is intended to address the increased mechanical demands and complexity associated with reconstructing multiple injured knee ligaments. By providing additional reinforcement to the reconstructed ligament(s), the construct is intended to reduce the risk of early graft elongation and excessive postoperative laxity, particularly during the initial rehabilitation phase when the biological grafts may not yet have achieved full structural integration. The additional mechanical support may facilitate a more controlled rehabilitation pathway while preserving the biological advantages of autologous tissue.

The primary target users are orthopedic surgeons performing multi-ligament knee reconstructions who require a reinforced autograft construct with enhanced early mechanical stability. The principal beneficiaries are patients with complex multi-ligament knee injuries who require reconstruction of two or more ligaments and may benefit from the use of their own biological tissue. The MUIB Autograft therefore combines the biological advantages of autologous tissue with the mechanical reinforcement of internal bracing to address the increased stability requirements of multi-ligament reconstruction and support restoration of knee stability and function.

Hybrid Load-Sharing Protection

The solution combines a natural human tendon graft with a high-strength synthetic internal bracing tape. The internal brace acts as a mechanical safeguard, absorbing heavy structural forces immediately after surgery to prevent the graft from stretching out or tearing while it heals, a common flaw in standard tissue grafts.

Real-Time Intraoperative Customization

The preparation protocol takes place entirely within the operating theater, allowing the surgical team to dynamically tailor the graft's thickness, exact length, and bracing tension to match the patient's specific knee anatomy and joint laxity requirements right before implantation.

Confident and Accelerated Rehabilitation Timelines

Because the braced graft provides immediate biomechanical strength, patients can safely begin physical therapy and weight-bearing exercises much sooner. This shortens the overall recovery timeline and allows individuals to return to active daily living and work faster without compromising joint stability.

High-Performance Alternative to Costly Imports

This solution provides a locally validated alternative to expensive imported synthetic ligaments. Unlike purely artificial options that never truly integrate into the body, this hybrid solution allows the patient's own cells to grow into the natural tissue scaffolding, ensuring long-term biological durability at a lower cost to the healthcare system.
