RAINOVA: Integrated and Smart Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge (TBRG) Model A is a locally engineered smart tipping bucket rain gauge for continuous rainfall monitoring in tropical and remote environments. Its design combines precision tipping measurement with a rain-validation sensor and a self-cleaning mesh-wire cover with servo actuation to reduce clogging and provide high accuracy and reliable rain precipitation directly to the data server to be used for flood monitoring and prediction. On the other hand, the external worm-gear calibration is developed to ease the maintenance and calibration in the laboratory and field calibration due to difficulties in the maintenance and calibration of the existing tipping-bucket rain gauge, especially in remote areas. Besides, the nylon sound absorption material is applied to reduce the damage of the existing tipping bucket rain gauge from wild animals such as the elephants in remote areas. The anti-pest drainage, solar power, local data storage, and remote telemetry are also equipped to increase the reliability and accuracy of the integrated and smart tipping bucket rain gauge. Finally, the RAINOVA system is intended to reduce clogging, false tips, maintenance frequency, and field-calibration difficulty while preserving reliable rainfall records. This RAINOVA product is also a result of the collaborative consultation work done with the Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran Malaysia (JPS) under KAJIAN PEREKAYASAAN PENDERIA HUJAN (MODEL A) DAN SISTEM PENDERIA SEJATAN ‘AUTOMATIK’ (MODEL A) UNTUK PROGRAM PEREKAYASAAN JANGKA PANJANG PROGRAM RAMALAN DAN AMARAN BANJIR (PPJPRAB) from the research and development study and field validation and has been proven by the Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran Malaysia (JPS) and will be commercialized and not only be used in Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran Malaysia (JPS) rain station but also other agencies and other environment and agriculture monitoring authorities such as Metreology Station, JKR, MADA, KADA, etc.
