Smart Infrastructure Innovation for Government Digital Transformation

Smart Infrastructure Innovation for Government Digital Transformation

Company & Product Background
Nextplus System Sdn Bhd (NEXTPLUS) is a Malaysian-based, fully Bumiputera-owned ICT company that focuses on delivering server-based, enterprise-grade ICT hardware solutions designed to meet the ICT operational, security, and performance requirements of both Government and Private Sector clients. Established in 2010, NEXTPLUS positions itself a local hardware solution provider that integrates, customizes, and supports critical ICT infrastructure with strong alignment to Malaysia’s national technology and innovation agenda.

Challenges & Solutions
The journey of NEXTPLUS into the government sector landscape involved various challenges commonly faced by local ICT
hardware companies:

  1. Wrong Mindset in Government ICT Procurement
    • Over-Reliance on MNC Brands – Belief that foreign or MNC brands are always superior, leading to overlooking locally customized solutions that better fit actual needs.
    • Blind Trust in High Specifications – Perception that higher specs mean better performance, resulting in over-purchasing costly high-end servers that remain underutilized.
    • Lack of User Education – Insufficient understanding of actual server needs, leading to misaligned procurement decisions and wasted resources
  2. Technology Adopted Issues in Government ICT Procurement
    • Over-Specification Without Optimization – Procuring high-end servers with excessive CPU, RAM, Storage, and GPU, but failing to match actual workload needs, leading to wasted resources.
    • One-Size-Fits-All Approach – Assuming off-the-shelf servers meet all requirements, ignoring the need for customized configurations based on specific workloads.
    • Underutilized Hardware Resources – Investing in top-tier specifications, but due to poor workload distribution or lack of optimization, much of the hardware remains unused.
    • Performance Below Expectations –Despite acquiring expensive high-spec servers, system performance remains below par due to inefficient resource allocation and lack of customization.
    • Higher Costs Without Real Benefits – Spending excessively on premium servers without gaining proportional improvements in efficiency, processing speed, or operational effectiveness.
  3. Maintenance Support Issues in Government ICT Procurement
    • Limited Local Warranty Support – Imported servers often come with restricted or delayed warranty services, causing longer downtime during hardware failures
    • Lack of On-Site Technical Assistance – Absence of local service centres or certified technicians, leading to delays in troubleshooting and repairs
    • High Cost of Maintenance – Dependence on overseas support teams results in expensive service contracts, costly replacement parts, and extended repair times.
    • Dependency on Foreign Vendors – Relying on MNC brands makes organizations vulnerable to vendor lock-in, slow response times, and inconsistent service quality.
    • Longer Downtime & Operational Disruptions – Without immediate local support, critical IT operations face extended downtime, impacting productivity and efficiency.

As a testament to our innovation and local R&D efforts, NEXTPLUS has been awarded five MySTI certifications by
MOSTI/MRANTI recognizing our contributions to Malaysia’s ICT advancements.

  1. Builds Trust in Local ICT Solutions
MySTI Certification provides official government validation, correcting bias toward foreign brands and increasing confidence in NEXTPLUS as a credible local ICT hardware provider.
  2. Promotes Right-Sized and Optimised Systems
Certified status enables NEXTPLUS to design workload-based, customized systems, preventing over-specification, improving performance, and ensuring efficient hardware utilization.
  3. Reduces Cost While Maximising Value
Optimised configurations help government agencies avoid unnecessary spending on oversized systems while maintaining performance, compliance, and long-term scalability.
  4. Strengthens Local Support and Faster Response
MySTI reinforces NEXTPLUS’s role as a local Bumiputera provider, ensuring faster warranty handling, on-site technical support, and reduced dependency on overseas vendors.
  5. Supports Technology Sovereignty and Continuity
Certified local solutions reduce vendor lock-in, enhance national technology control, and ensure stable, long-term operation of government ICT infrastructure.

Impact & Achievements
Upon securing MySTI certification, NEXTPLUS has strengthened its presence and achieved key milestones in government ICT procurement projects:
● Following the government’s announcement to prioritise MySTI-certified ICT hardware and software, NEXTPLUS’s in-house demonstrations invitation received strong and positive acceptance from government agencies..
● In the B2B segment, NEXTPLUS has increasingly received requests for in-house demo visits, technical discussions, tender proposal engagements and quotations from ICT vendors and partners.
● Encouragingly, the Pixelspace AI Series was successfully procured by national ICT security organisations such as MIMOS Berhad, CyberSecurity Malaysia and STRIDE which validating its capability to fulfil multiple strict security and performance requirements.
● Possessing five MySTI certifications significantly strengthened NEXTPLUS’s credibility in establishing R&D collaboration with the globally recognised ICT component manufacturer, Phison Electronics Corporation to develop high-performance storage solutions for AI technology.
● At the end of September 2025, the company was awarded Malaysia Digital Company status by the Malaysian Government, providing a strong catalyst for engaging government and private sectors more effectively

Conclusion
The MySTI Certifications significantly enhanced NEXTPLUS System Sdn Bhd’s success in the government ICT sector by providing official validation of its Pixelspace hardware solutions. This recognition increased government procurement confidence, reduced reliance on foreign brands, and improved sales engagement through demos and tenders.

It also affirmed NEXTPLUS’s local R&D capabilities in AI, server, and storage technologies while validating its certified ICT hardware list for compliance and performance

Overall, MySTI accelerated market access, strengthened public-sector trust, and reinforced NEXTPLUS’s commitment to long-term support, cost efficiency, and sustainable ICT infrastructure development.
